INTERNET MARKETING REQUIRES WORK
Let’s all stop pretending, shall we? Making money online requires work. It’s not a game, never been and never will.
It can be at first: during the honeymoon phase. Everything is new, everything is beautiful, everything is exciting. We hear about things we’ve never heard before and we get all warm and fuzzy. We’re full of hope because we yet don’t know what awaits us.
We decide to go for, say, Affiliate Marketing and we’re all pumped up about the idea. We start binge watching any possible video about it and we buy a few courses.
We get down to business.
Pretty soon, reality hits. The concept is so banal we cannot understand why it’s not working. I mean: you promote somebody else’s product and when somebody buys it, we get a commission.
We JUST have to find a large enough pool of potential candidates that are already looking for the product / service we’re advertising as an Affiliate.
There is absolutely nothing mystical about it: nothing fancy, nothing complicated. They click on your links and when they buy, you make money.
Get enough people every month, you’re set for life.
Everybody sooner or later crashes right into the simple fact that finding interested people is harder than we imagined. That yes, we may promote a cool product, but the steps involved in promoting… those we can get seriously wrong.
We discover that making that 10k a month that EVERYBODY strives for at the beginning is hard. It actually requires SOME work.
We start realizing that the people actually making 10k a month are fewer than we thought and that the majority of what we perceived as guru only a few months ago… don’t know what they’re talking about (aka: they’re lying).
We also start to realize that 10k a month doesn’t mean anything.
10k in sales? 10k in gross sales?
After taxes? After expenses?
What does 10k mean?
To me, it means that at the end of the month, your checking account balance has 10,000 more bucks in it.
And actually, you wanted this as well: you wanted 10 more disposable thousands of dollars every month.
Finally, by continuously working (and studying), you get there.
You start racking up 10k after 10k.
The shocking news is that you realize, immediately and without hesitation, that 10k a month doesn’t allow you to live the life of your dreams. Yes, your lifestyle has increased A BIT… nothing extraordinary.
Also, you realize (if you’re a thinking human being) that now you have to save more money. While before you could save $200 a month and be happy about it, now you cannot do it anymore.
It feels weird to be making 10k a month but only have a few hundreds dollars in your bank account.
Now you want more money per month, more money in your bank and you want to be able to spend more money.
You have to up your game. You decided to do it and you aim for 30k a month: $1,000 a day.
Again, what does 30k a month mean?
To me, it means net profit after taxes, expenses and everything else. Call it EBITDA, if you please.
After 1 month, your bank account has to be increased of 30k (minus your lifestyle).
Here is where it gets nasty: while 10k a month is achievable without having an elaborated strategy and you can do it relatively easily… 30k is not like that.
And this applies to 100k a month with pretty much the same intensity… nothing really changes (I promise).
You now need a complete set of tools, mostly 2 things:
1) the right vehicle
2) the right strategy
The situation is even more complicated now: I am ready to swear on the Holy Bible that the number of Internet Marketers that NET 30k a month is ridiculously small. Like… I mean, you may as well not know anybody that does.
You see dashboards, Ferraris and mansions but, since you’ve been in business long enough, you start distinguishing the reality from mere marketing to suck in people.
You also realize that big dashboards pretty much mean squat as they don’t show:
1) how much money was spent on traffic
2) how much money the staff costs
3) how much money will go away in taxes
No matter what you do, this 1,000 a day (NET) seems to escape you and it doesn’t matter what you do… it doesn’t come.
By this time, if you’re not completely shot-through with self-help, you also realize that the old mantra of “just provide value to people and the universe will reward you with money” is simply a fancy crafted sentence responsible for you having spent far too much money on silly seminars.
You don’t know where to turn and you end up:
1) quitting and going back to your day job, postponing your success to “the future” and rationalising this decision with BS like “well, I now have more experience so I can find a better job” or “I didn’t like that IM thing anyway”.
2) staying in the 3-5k a month limbo (because this is what 99% of PROFITABLE Internet Marketers really make after taxes, expenses, mortgage and stuff).
3) going back to your self-help seminars / to church in order to seek comfort… because you believe that the way you’ll get more money is by being a more deserving person.
If you’re serious about truly making a lot of money on the internet (or even off the internet), you have to truly commit to succeeding and working hard.
At a certain point, you’re either in or you’re out: there isn’t anything in between.
It’s like being pregnant: you cannot be half pregnant. You’re either pregnant or you’re not.
Work is required: accept it and get to work. You’ll fail many times but you only need to succeed one. After that one time, the game becomes easier.
Forget the loophole and the trick: do use it, but remember that your business cannot be based on it. Everybody makes a quick buck from time to time, but don’t rely on it to pay your bill.
Stop dreaming about big money without being willing to do what it takes.
One of the most painful and long-lasting delusion in life is to expect results you have no intention of put the price for.
This is how people get conned.
There are a lot of people that will promise you you can make $1,000 – $10,000 a day with no work and no investment: it’s false. Yeah, sometimes it happens but I mean, people also win the lottery.
Again, don’t bank on it. If it happens God bless you but don’t rely on it to pay your bills.
Life will go quickly and you could find yourself at 30,40,50,60,70 years old thinking “boy… what was I thinking? Why didn’t I put in the work?”.
Nobody will do the work for you. There are better vehicles than others in which some tasks you can delegate, but work is still involved.
Learn how to enjoy it.
Yep, it requires work and a time and money investment.
The only promise I can give you is that the system works… if you work it.
Check it out (or don’t… just keep dreaming. Maybe it will happen anyway :P)
